Found on Mount Mo in Thuong Hoa commune, Nho Quan district, Van Trinh Cave is one of Ninh Binh’s most mystical. Also known as ‘Giang Tien’, it draws its name from ancient mythology about a fairy, the youngest daughter of God, who found respite in the cave’s natural beauty and crafted serene basins and baths with ever-flowing, crystal-clear waters. In her honour, a temple was erected in front of the cave and came to bear her name.
Visiting Van Trinh Cave is an adventure that starts with a boat ride along the picturesque Hoang Long River to the foot of Mo Mountain. From there, a well-constructed road leads you to the cave’s entrance. After that, you must ascend the 77 steps and journey deep into the cave, whose cathedral-like ceiling, reaching heights exceeding 100 metres, looms overhead as babbling water and stone percussion fill the air around you.
